Some Quotes from Bill |
I think about the cosmic snowball theory. A few million years from now the sun will burn out and lose its gravitational pull. The earth will turn into a giant snowball and be hurled through space. When that happens it won’t matter if I get this guy out.
"Do they leave it (Fenway's Green Monster) there during the game?"
"Most of the managers are lifetime .220 hitters. For years pitchers have been getting these managers out 75% of the time and that's why they don't like us."
The other day they asked me about mandatory drug testing. I said I believed in drug testing a long time ago. All through the sixties I tested everything!
"You have two hemispheres in your brain - a left and a right side. The left side controls the right side of your body and right controls the left half. It's a fact. Therefore, left-handers are the only people in their right minds."
Discussing the possibility that his former team, the Montreal Expos, may move to Washington:
The only way I’m coming to Washington is if I am elected. And if I do, I will paint the White House pink and turn it into a Mexican restaurant.
SPACEMAN: Bill Lee hates the Yankees-YA THINK?
(The following information is from
the redsox.com website)
Red Sox, 1969-1978 All Star: 1973 The "Spaceman" Bill Lee has to be one of the
most colorful players ever to don a Red Sox uniform. Never daring to contradict
the common perception of left-handers as "Screwballs," Lee constantly amazed the
Red Sox faithful with his eccentric behavior on and off the field, whether it
was his patented "Moonball" pitch or his off-the-wall comments. Behind the
eccentricity, however, was a baseball purist, who lamented the institution of
the designated hitter rule, domed stadiums and artificial turf. Lee's All-star
season in 1973 saw his first of three consecutive 17-win seasons. His years with
the Red Sox had their high point during the 1975 world series season, when he
went 17-9 with four shutouts. Starting games two and seven, Lee pitched well in
each of his starts, but was unable to notch a decision.
